Meat Products

Pasture Raised Chevron (Goat Meat)

Myotonic, or Fainting Goats were introduced in the United States as a meat goat. They are raised in sizes from small (pygmy) sized to quite large. The goats we are raising are the smaller variety, which results in a smaller amount of meat for the freezer. Our butchering goats range in weight from 40 to 65 pounds. You will normally expect about half that weight in processed meat, meaning 20 to 32 pounds of meat to take home. Please see the "Purchase to Processing Instructions".

Pasture raised Pork

The Guinea Hog breed was once the most numerous pig breed found on homesteads in the Southeast. Now they are critically endangered. We are currently breeding pure Guinea Hogs primarily as breeding stock. However, we have found a great source of flavorful pork in a "small package" in our Guinea Hog/Pot bellied pig cross. Both of these breeds are small (under 250 pounds), calm, friendly and easy to raise. Pigs we sell as butchering pigs will weigh between 50 and 150 pounds, which will result in about 25 to 75 pounds of pork. Please see the "Purchase to Processing Instructions".

Pasture Raised Beef

Our Dexter Cattle are currently being marketed primarily as breeding stock. On occasion, a steer becomes available for butchering. Please call for availability and pricing.

Pasture Raised Poultry

While we do not currently have any pastured poultry available for processing, we hope to reenter that market in the fall of 2012. Please call for availability and pricing.

Farm Fresh Eggs

We expect to have eggs available by mid summer of 2012. Please call for availability and pricing.

Additional Notes

In compliance with animal Welfare Approved (AWA) standards, we do not sell any animals at less than 12 weeks of age. All of our animals are raised in a humane manor, on pasture and in the company of other animals of their kind. Weaning takes place naturally "at the mother's discretion". We supplement pasture and quality hay with small amounts of grain and feeds. We do not feed any animal byproducts of any kink to our poultry or our livestock. We do not use any hormones. All breeding and reproduction takes place naturally. We do not use antibiotics on any of our butchering animals. (Antibiotics are used only as determined necessary and recommended by our vet, and that animal is never sold for butchering.)

Purchase to Processing Instructions

We sell our butchering livestock "on the hoof", meaning that you will purchase a live farm animal from us. We currently use (and recommend) Farmers' Packing Inc. of Albion for processing of your purchased animal. If you do not wish to, or have a means to transport your purchase to farmers' Packing we will arrange to have the animal transported free of charge. If you wish to use another processor, you will pick the animal up here at Grimm Acres and provide your own transport. Once the animal has reached the processor you will arrange butchering and packaging directly with the processor, and will pay the processor directly for that service. If the process is new to you the staff at Farmers' Packing, Inc. will walk you through the choices, explaining the terms and helping you decide what will work best for your families use.

Why Choose Grimm Acres?

Our animals are raised on our pasture in natural sunlight and fresh air. Following Animal Welfare Approved guidelines, all of our livestock and poultry are treated humanely and with attention to their quality of life, as well as health. They are not crowed or stressed, an so rarely if ever require any medication or antibiotics. W have found, as many other s have discovered, that pasture raised, heritage and heritage cross animals have a richer, better flavor than those raised conventionally.
